The Bay Harbor Foundation Scholars!
To the applause of donors and parents of the Bay Harbor Foundation recently awarded college scholarships to 31 students. The recipients included 28 residents of Emmet and Charlevoix counties with 19 of the students residing in the city of Petoskey. All students are either an employee or child of an employee of a Bay Harbor Business.
This is the fourth year that the Bay Harbor Foundation has awarded scholarships to students who are registered in a 2 or 4 year college program. This year, 15 of the recipients are repeat scholars.
The Bay Harbor Foundation has awarded over $250,000 in scholarships during the past 4 years. The majority of the recipients continue to be residents of Northern Michigan. Ann Stallkamp, Chairman of the Scholar Program stated that, “Each year the competition increases as our students strive for higher grade point averages, recommendations and community service activities. Most of our scholars are attending Michigan Universities and we are very proud to be a partner in their educational success.”
Next year’s application for the program will be available in early July and the recipients will be announced in early August.

A senior at Boyne City High School, Monica was recently awarded a $20,0000 scholarship to Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. She will work with Jerry and Riley in the studio & gallery, and will be a resident artist painting in the studio and assisting on mural projects.

Bay Harbor 5K Run/Walk Partnering with Northern Michigan Regional Hospial

The Bay Harbor Foundation’s 5K Run / Walk has been recognized as a quality physical activity event by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness. The event will be held in the Village at Bay Harbor, Saturday, May 14, at 9:00 am. The run/walk takes you around Bay Harbor Lake and everyone is invited to participate. The fee is $20.00 and the applications are available on the Foundation web-site, www.bayharborfoundation.org.
Dr. Louis A. Cannon, Program Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at NMRH, encourages everyone to come out and participate in the run within the beautiful environs of Bay Harbor: “By training for and participating in this event, you are not only doing something healthy for your own heart, but for many others’ hearts as well, since the funds will be directed to much needed upgrades in the stress-testing system at NMRH.
The Bay Harbor Foundation is partnering with the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Foundation with the 5K Run/Walk to help raise funds to upgrade the stress-testing and treadmill system used in the Vascular Ultrasound Lab of MHVS (affiliate of NMRHS). The new system will be used to assess patients for peripheral vascular disease (PAD). The stress-testing system will be used in conjunction with vascular ultrasound to evaluate the effects of exercise on the blood flow to the legs

Bay Harbor Ice & Snow Festival - A Great Success!

The 10th Annual Bay Harbor Ice & Snow Festival, proudly presented to you by Art Van Furniture and the Village at Bay Harbor Merchants, that took place January 21 -23 was a great success! This event was sanctioned by the National Ice Carving Association, and Bay Harbor was officially one of the fourteen stops on the 2011 TOUR OF CHAMPIONS through NICA. The competitions are held all over the country and Canada throughout the year. Bay Harbor welcomed carvers and judges from all over the country including Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan. Bay Harbor is truly honored to be a part of this very prestigious tour. The competition was managed by Ice Creations, nationally renowned for hosting major competitions across the United States. The Award Ceremony took place at Cava on Saturday evening, and cash awards were given to our winners as follows:
Professional Carving Division:
1st Place - $5,000:
Aaron Costic, “Spirit” – Aaron is a four-time Olympic Gold Medal Champion Carver and Owner of Elegant Ice in Cleveland, OH. He has been carving for 20 years.

Tons of Fun at the Bay Harbor Bow Wow

The Bay Harbor Bow Wow was held Sunday, August 15 in the Village at Bay Harbor. We want to extend a thank you to everyone who came down and brought their furry little friends to show off. It was a great day and another great event. Jennifer Kane, our summer intern in Bay Harbor worked so hard and secured hundreds of donations for registration gift bags, raffle prizes and contest winners!
All proceeds from the event were split between the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society and Great Lakes Golden Retriever Rescue.

"Just a short walk away was a little Downtown area with shops, restaurants, a marina, and condos. We had fun trying new places, but left with two favorites: Knot Just a Bar and the Pancake House.
We also rode bikes, roasted s’mores by the evening campfire, swam in the pool, lounged on the hammocks, and basically had a relaxing vacation – a very new concept for us!
What surprised us the most was the gorgeous water of Lake Michigan. It was crystal clear with that blue/green shade I thought was trademarked by the Caribbean! The kids loved going out into this surprising warm lake, had fun skipping rocks and even playing in the waves. The sun did not set until almost 9:30 each night, so our long, lazy days were super long. What more can you ask for?
The ride from Cleveland was about 7 hours, not a bad ride at all. It was a winning vacation for all of us. There was plenty to do for the kids, but still a nice pace for my in-laws. I think my family just added another favorite vacation destination to our list!"
